CREATIVE BLOCK
Recover your creative spark
When you rely on your creativity to make a living and build your reputation, you can’t afford to be short of ideas or the energy to put them into action.
Whether you are a writer, a performer, a designer, a musician, an inventor or you need to be creative in your day to day life, having a creative block is one of the most frustrating feelings and it's potentially a damaging thing for your career.
Creative block is when you get trapped by your own thinking. You’re so locked into a familiar way of looking at the world that you fail to see other options. You make assumptions and approach a problem from a limiting belief. Or maybe your inner critic won't stop talking and stops you thinking straight.
Creativity can be intense!
When faced with the unknown, you may be scared of what you’ll discover or reveal about yourself. Maybe your subject matter is painful, embarrassing or plain weird. Whatever the case is, all of these fears are just different forms of resistance, leading to a creative block.
Maybe you’re just trying to work in a way that isn’t compatible with your creative process. You work too early, too late, too long, or not long enough. You try to hard or not hard enough. You don’t have enough downtime or you don't have enough drive.
Creativity is a focus-demanding process and it’s hard to concentrate if you’re getting divorced, dealing with family issues, dealing with substance abuse, grieving, moving from one place to another, etc.
Sometimes a block comes from having too much, not too little. Maybe you’ve taken on too many commitments, you have too many great ideas, or you’re overwhelmed by the huge volume of incoming demands and information. You feel paralyzed by options and obligations or simply burnt out from working too hard for too long.
Creative blocks can also happen between people, not just in your own personal thought process.
If you work in a team, tensions are inevitable, and that can make it hard to do your best work. Sometimes you get blocked by "memory ghosts", merely imagining your work being booed by audiences and destroyed by the critics.
No matter the reason why you have developed creative block, I can help you overcome it!
